Can I wash my car immediately after an auto glass repair?

It's best to avoid washing your car immediately after an auto glass repair. Our expert Glass America technicians recommend waiting at least 24 to 48 hours before getting a car wash to ensure the adhesive has had time to set correctly.

When windshields or auto glass are repaired or replaced, an adhesive is used to bond the glass securely to the vehicle. Water, high pressure, or chemicals from a car wash could disturb the adhesive before it has fully cured, leading to potential issues like leaks or improper bonding.

Avoid high-pressure or automated car wash for the first 48 hours. High-pressure water or brushes can disrupt the setting adhesive. While hand washing exerts less pressure than an automated wash, waiting the recommended time is still advisable to prevent any disturbance to the adhesive. Even minor pressure can interfere with the curing process.

If you need to clean your windshield within the first 24 to 48 hours, gently wipe it down with a soft, damp cloth without applying too much pressure. Avoid the edges of the glass where the adhesive is most vulnerable.
